50/50 Shared Custody in 2025

With new legislators and a new governor to take office in 2025, raising the importance of enacting a Shared Parenting Bill of Rights during an election year may help a secure commitment from the next governor to prioritize this issue.

A Shared Parenting Bill of Rights would create a default presumption of equal shared custody, reform child support to automatically adjust child support to share it in the same proportion the kids are shared, and reform funding of the court system to make sure cases are heard and resolved quicker so that children do not grow old while cases are being decided.

Legislators need the to understand the impacts that shared parenting has on children and families as a whole. One way to help gain support of legislators is through education. There was a lot of positive feedback when we distributed The Boy Crisis books to all the Washington State legislators and Governor Inslee back in January 2023.

In planning what legislators will need to make educated decisions in 2025, NPO Washington is planning on distributing copies of ‘The 50/50 Solution’ and “Of Boys and Men”. Both books contain valuable insights into what the science and latest research is showing is in the best interest of children. Having access to the best information may help create better bills and better outcomes for children across the state.
